About This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to A Solar Compass, developed by Code Hospital, in all of the forms it is published in:

  • The Android app on Google Play (package name com.codehospital.tarzaha)
  • The iOS app on the App Store (bundle identifier com.aralel.tarzaha)
  • The SunQuest browser extension on the Chrome Web Store (extension id fjafeinjoideacgbpfdfnabfopddpibj)

The app is also referred to as SunQuest on this website and in some app builds — both names, and all three builds, refer to the same app and developer, and this policy applies equally to all of them. Where a section applies to only some platforms, it says so.

Introduction

Welcome to A Solar Compass's (SunQuest's) Privacy Policy. The app calculates the moment the sun aligns with a target direction you choose — a destination, a landmark, or anywhere else — and reminds you before it happens. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

SunQuest does not read your device's compass/magnetometer and does not track your location continuously in the background. It collects:

  • Location coordinates — your current location (entered manually or fetched once via GPS when you tap "Use GPS") and any target location you set
  • Approximate location, city, and country derived from your IP address, used as a starting point if you don't set your location yourself
  • Device information (model, brand, hardware, and OS/app version), sent to our server with requests for compatibility and support purposes
  • Crash and performance diagnostics, processed by Sentry and Google Firebase Crashlytics, which may include device details and a screenshot of the screen at the time of a crash
  • Text you submit through in-app feedback or "Report Wrong Calculation" forms

In the Chrome extension, your location comes from the browser's location permission (only when you ask for it) or from the IP-based starting point described above, and your settings are kept in the browser's extension storage. The extension identifies itself as a browser client (including your browser platform string) when it looks up a starting location. It does not include the Sentry or Firebase Crashlytics crash-reporting SDKs, and it does not show ads.

How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used for:

  • Calculating the sun's alignment with your chosen target direction
  • Sending reminder notifications and updating home-screen widgets with the countdown
  • Looking up a starting location and timezone for you when needed
  • Diagnosing crashes and improving app stability and device compatibility
  • Reviewing feedback and calculation reports you choose to submit

Advertising

The Android app displays ads through Google AdMob; the iOS app and the Chrome extension do not show ads. AdMob may collect and use identifiers and other data to serve ads, as described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can review or reset your advertising identifier and ad personalization settings in your device's system settings.

Data Collection Preferences

You have some control over your data collection preferences:

  • You'll be asked about data collection the first time you launch the app
  • You can change this preference at any time from the Settings icon (gear icon) in the app's top bar
  • This preference controls whether device details are included when the app looks up a starting location for you via your IP address
  • Location coordinates you set yourself and basic device information are still used to operate core features (alignment calculations, reminders, and crash diagnostics) regardless of this preference

Data Storage and Security

SunQuest stores and processes data on our servers and through the third-party services listed above (Sentry, Firebase Crashlytics, Google AdMob). We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information. We do not:

  • Sell your personal information
  • Share your personal information with third parties beyond the service providers described in this policy
  • Store your location history beyond what is necessary to provide the service

Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Request access to your stored data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Adjust the data collection preference described above at any time
  • Request information about how your data is being used
